Closing Your Pool

The right way to winterize just happens to be the easy way too.

Treat now to make a clean start next season. You already know that the BAQUACIL Pool Care System won't cause red eyes, itchy skin, dry hair or faded suits. And a BAQUACIL pool requires less testing and treatment throughout the season. It's also a simple matter to close a BAQUACIL pool.

Step One - Take a sample of pool water to your Authorized BAQUACIL Dealer for laboratory analysis

Fill a clean plastic container with a quarter of pool water and take it to your pool professional for a thorough analysis. Your dealer will tell you exactly what your water needs to protect it from bacteria and algae during the winter. In many pools, a final addition of BAQUACIL SHOCK AND OXIDIZER, a top-up of BAQUACIL SANITIZER AND ALGISTAT and an initial dose of BAQUACIL ALGICIDE will be the only treatment the water needs.

Step Two - Perform all housekeeping chores

Covers the basics: Brush and vacuum. Remove, clean and store the skimmer box and basket and the pump's strainer basket. Clean the filter using BAQUACIL FILTER CLEANER to quickly remove deposits that are apt to harden over the winter, saving you the extra work at the beginning of next season.

Step Three - Drain some of the water and winterize the equipment

As a general rule, lower the water level to about four inches below the skimmer. (If your pool's owner's manual says otherwise, double check with your Authorized BAQUACIL Dealer.) Drain the water from the filter, heater, pump, hoses and pipes. You may want to disconnect the entire unit and store it indoors. If you do, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for lubrication and storage. In areas with mild winters, ask your pool professional for specific recommendations.

Step Four - Cover the pool to keep it clean

The purpose of covering a pool is to keep leaves and debris out of the water while it isn't in use. If nothing foreign gets into the pool, there's nothing to alter the water's chemistry, so you won't have to add chemicals to compensate for changes. It's important to use a solid pool cover that fits well, and was designed for your pool.

If you decide not cover your pool, or to use a mesh cover instead, check the BAQUACIL SANITIZER AND ALGISTAT and pH levels twice a month during the off-season and run your filter 4-6 continuous hours each day.

Now it's time to relax. Rest assured that when next season begins, it will be much easier to open your pool. If you have any questions, please call or drop by your Authorized BAQUACIL Dealer for help in maintaining sparkling clear pool water all season long, year after year.
